Founder, Baby Boomers Traveling
Doris Gallan is a baby boomer who has been to all seven continents and 50+ countries. Fulfilling the dream of many Boomers, she quit the rat race at the age of 46 to pursue her life-long passions of traveling and writing. Doris and her husband left their corporate jobs, sold their Los Angeles home, and started a two-year round-the-world trip that ended up being—thus far—a nine-year journey.
Finding little information or travel services to assist in the planning and booking of such a grand voyage, the couple did their own research, sketching out their trip a just few months in advance. Doris then wrote the book for her generation on travel: The Boomers’ Guide to Going Abroad to Travel | Live | Give | Learn.
Since leaving corporate America in 2006, Doris has created a travel marketing firm focusing on organizations interested in serving the needs of boomer travelers and taught the next generation of hospitality and tourism service providers at university. She has been a regular speaker at conferences and led seminars for boomers and the travel industry. In January 2012, The Travel Institute, a well-known provider of innovative education programs and professional certifications, offered Doris’s classes on how to cater and market travel products to Boomers. She has also contributed a number of articles for “Friday Five”. She regularly speaks to groups about on traveling on a budget, getting over the fear of travel, and ‘round the world journeys.
She is honored to be included with such luminaries as Gloria Steinem, John E. Nelson (What Color is Your Parachute?), Mark Miller (The Hard Times Guide to Retirement Security) and others in the book 65 Things to Do When You Retire. The popularity of the book’s travel section led to the publishers creating a second book 65 Things to Do When You Retire: Travel. Her essays inspire new travelers to get out there to see the world and more experienced trip-takers to travel in ways they may not have considered before.
In the years since leaving Los Angeles, Doris has lived in Mexico, Costa Rica, China and Viet Nam with a move to South America in the works. She teaches hospitality and tourism as well as business courses at university.
Doris received her MBA from the Peter F. Drucker Graduate School of Management at Claremont Graduate University (2000) with concentrations in Strategic Planning and Marketing. Her book, The Boomers’ Guide to Going Abroad to Travel | Live | Give | Learn is available through www.Amazon.com.
