Over his nearly 30 years in the media business, Doug Gollan has gained broad experience in both print, digital and native content platforms, working across travel and luxury. Beginning as an associate editor and then aviation editor, he then moved into the business side at Travel Agent Magazine, where during his tenure in management (Advertising Director, Associate Publisher and Group Publisher), they increased revenue from $9 million to $27 million and turned a $1 million annual operating loss into $9 million annual profit and generated over $100 million in total profits. During the final five years, they were ranked by Advertising Age as one of the 10 largest magazines, measured by ad pages, carrying over 5,000 ad pages per year. Additionally, they established a Custom Publishing and Training Division that generated over $5 million in annual revenue, including operating training programs for travel agents on behalf of Walt Disney, Princess Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Lines, Jamaica Tourism Board, Globus/Cosmos, Visit Florida, British Airways and others.
In 2000 he left to co-found Elite Traveler (where he was President and Editor-in-Chief), and grew revenue from 0 to $14 million in six years with a 25 percent profit margin. Moreover, he was able to generate well over half of the revenue from outside the travel sector, including automotive, jewelry, watches, spirits, real estate carrying advertising from leading brands such as Polo Ralph Lauren, Chanel, Gucci, Burberry, David Yurman, Cartier, Tiffany, Harry Winston, Patek Philippe, Mercedes Benz, BMW, etc.
During his tenure with Elite Traveler and Travel Agent they won over 100 Folio:, Adrian and other awards for quality and excellence.
Doug was co-author in 2007 of “The Sky’s the Limit: Marketing to the New Jet Set,” based on over 600 interviews with private jet owners, and in 2014 he wrote “23 Ways To Create More Sales Opportunities in 25 Minutes” which made it into Amazon’s Top 10 in three different categories.
Currently Doug advises media and luxury companies, and specializes in the Ultra High Net Worth/Super Rich (UHNW) segment, defined as households with a net worth of $30 million or more.
