Marilyn McHugh is an accomplished sales, marketing and events leader with more than 25 years of global hospitality experience.
A dynamic presenter and moderator, McHugh has led strategic sales and marketing training sessions, delivered leadership addresses and moderated educational panels at industry forums including Travel Industry Exchange, HSMAI’s MEET and Incentive Travel Exchange events.
Fulfilling a long-held passion to marry her practical experience with higher education, McHugh serves as an adjunct professor at the International School of Hospitality and Tourism Management of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, New Jersey, where she teaches courses in event management, global marketing, global tourism and hospitality sales and marketing.
She formerly was vice president of global events for Questex Hospitality + Travel, responsible for the overall management, business development and growth of nearly 30 Questex events produced domestically and globally. During her four years there, she created luxury events for travel agency owners and operators, developed a certification program for travel agents and launched new events in Latin America, Asia and Europe.
Prior to joining Questex, McHugh was brand director for UBM Live, responsible for organizing several of the world’s largest cruise industry exhibitions and conferences, managing the marketing team, setting strategies, implementing social media initiatives and meeting revenue goals.
From 1991 to 2009, she served Wyndham Worldwide and its predecessors in key corporate and brand marketing roles. As Wyndham Hotel Group’s vice president of global sales, marketing and communications, she was responsible for the global business-to-business marketing plan, long term sales strategies in support of the company’s 12 brands, supervision of the Global Sales team and management of trade shows, operations, training and communications.
She also developed and launched an online directory for meeting planners, championed a social media marketing campaign for travel management companies, implemented an online specialist program for travel agents and led automation of a request-for-proposal process.
McHugh is a magna cum laude graduate of Farleigh Dickinson University, where she received a master’s degree in international hospitality management and a bachelor’s degree in hospitality.
She earned a Certified Hotel Administration designation from the American Hotel & Lodging Association’s Educational Institute.
