Having many followers on your social networks is great, but email is still one of the strongest channels when it comes to converting clients. And what would happen with all your hard-earned fans and followers if Facebook or Twitter would shut down next month? Don’t see a large number of fans on your social channels as an end goal, but as a means to get relevant audiences to sign up for your email list.
Here’s how:
1. Share the sign-up link regularly. People won’t sign up if they don’t know you have a newsletter, so let them know about it. Post a link a couple of days before your next newsletter goes out, let them know what it’s going to be about and tell them they need to sign up if they don’t want to miss out.
2. Organize a contest or sweepstakes. This is a great and fast way to grow your email list. Just keep in mind that some people might sign up just because they’re interested in the contest. To increase the likelihood of getting high-quality sign-ups, promote your contest among relevant audiences and make signing up an optional part of the entry process. Also, mention that signing up for the newsletter will not influence their chance of winning.
3. Offer exclusive content and incentives. Share a preview of exclusive content email subscribers will get access to once they sign up, for example an e-book or discount on their next purchase. You could also do a free giveaway among email subscribers every month to encourage subscriptions, or offer incentives for referrals.
4. Hold a webinar with Google Hangouts. Google Hangouts are a great way to build your brand and get new customers, but even if a webinar doesn’t give you new clients right away, make sure to mention that they should sign up for your newsletter.
5. Use ads to spread the word. Use any of the tips above in combination with social media ads to reach more people. Use custom audiences based on your ideal customer and retargeting to target people who visited your website but didn’t sign up for your newsletter.
