Not all visitor attractions and experiences appear on the typical tourist must-see, must-do list. Some attractions and experiences may be off the beaten path or hidden. Some of these attractions and experiences are unique and well worth investigating.
Below are some of the hidden gems of Vietnam.
1. Hanoi’s Train Street: Through this skinny alley, trains pass with only an 8in/20cm gap between the train and the alley’s houses, buildings, and cafes. Visitors wanting to photograph the trains should listen to and obey the street locals and café the staff as the trains are passing.
2. Vinh Moc Tunnels: Located north of Hue, these tunnels were home to families who took shelter in them during the Vietnam War and ended up living there for years.
3. Lan Ha Bay: Book a cruise that includes Lan Ha Bay along with Ha Long Bay. The karst scenery is just as dramatic here, but fewer cruises visit Lan Ha Bay. Look for cruises that include activities, such as guided kayaking, for an up-close view of the scenery.
4. Ha Long Bay: For the ultimate authentic experience, visitors can arrange to spend the night in one of the homes in the fishing village and go night fishing with the locals.
5. Bai Tu Long Bay: Located near Ha Long Bay, this bay offers the same breathtaking views but with fewer crowds.
Bonus:
Ho Thuy Tien: Located a few kilometers from Hue, visitors can check out this eerie, abandoned theme park.
