Narkis Eserig, CTC – Alumni Spotlight

What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?

My Love for Travel and the fact that I have always been booking my own and my friends and family’s travel plans. I decided that this will be a very rewarding way to make a difference in every client’s experience from start to end, and even after they’re back from their vacations. I am always happy to explore new destinations while getting travel plans together for prospective clients. I am eager to make the best out of each and every itinerary, for all kind of travel needs, or wants.

Can you share a moment in your career when you realized, “This is exactly what I’m meant to do”?

The moment I realized this is exactly what I am meant to do was when I had a lady reach out to me asking me to help her find a boutique hotel for her and her husband, to celebrate their anniversary. Their budget wasn’t really high, but I was able to find them something that fit their budget and wants. When they came back they were so happy with everything, and the fact that they shared their positive experience while working with me, and the place they had celebrated their anniversary made me even more sure that this is my dream job/ career path.

How has your journey evolved since graduating from The Travel Institute?

I believe it has, since graduating I went on my own, left my host agency and opened my own Travel Agency. Now I do not need to be attached to anybody, and share my success. I am gaining better exposure and I believe more leads that turn into booking clients.

What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?

The best part, and my favorite by far is hearing about how much fun they had, while they are sharing photos, and videos showing me their experiences through their eyes. Learning about what people love the most about their trips and sharing their experiences while working with me as well.

What’s one cultural experience that left a lasting impression on you?

The one cultural experience that left a lasting impression on me is Bali Indonesia. The people are so family oriented and they are so committed to their religion that they have more temples than any other buildings. I was interested in learning the meaning of their offerings for the gods, which they have everywhere.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their travel industry journey?

The best advice for a new travel agent is, pick one or two things you are most passionate about when you think about travel. Explore the options and vendors that will be your “go to” booking portal.

Example: River Cruises, Ocean Cruises, All Inclusive, Guided tours, etc

Get familiar with the cruise lines and study what a few of them have to offer. This way you can offer options that work for your prospective clients, and you don’t get overwhelmed with the so many options that are out there.

I have been in the industry for more than 5 years now, and there are so many different vendors and options to choose from that I don’t even consider approaching. The travel industry changes all the time, and more travel options that come with it. There is always something new to learn.

If you could only pack 3 items for a trip around the world, what would they be?

For a trip around the world I would pack, my passport, phone- to capture each and every moment, and a backpack so I can buy things I will need along the way.
After all stuff is replaceable, moments are once in a lifetime opportunity.

What’s one place on your travel bucket list that you haven’t crossed off yet?

One place that is at the top on my bucket list is Brazil during Carnival.

I am so interested in emerging myself in their festivities and celebrating with the locals, like a local.
