Alumni Headshot - Pauline Churchill, CTC

Pauline Churchill, CTC – Alumni Spotlight

What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?

It was after I had moved from Britain to the United States and a friend needed some extra help. I asked a million questions, learned an airline system and how to deal with suppliers. It was a gradual journey.

Can you share a moment in your career when you realized, “This is exactly what I’m meant to do”?

Once my family was grown I had the time to really devote to travel and then started to specialize. I regularly tell clients I have the best job in the world and they agree. Selling luxury has been pivotal and a game changer. I absolutely love what I do and the friendships I have made along the way.

How has your journey evolved since graduating from The Travel Institute?

I have my certifications on my email signature so that clients can see what I have achieved and show them that I am trustworthy. There are so many unscrupulous people out there preying on others that I am glad we have a storefront agency, so our clients can come and visit us, sit and chat. The certifications are as important in our business as they are in any other profession.

What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?

I see their trips through my own eyes and love to hear their stories when they come home. Two clients did a trip through France especially to watch the Tour de France cyclists at various stages. They were so thrilled to be a part of this that it gave me immense joy to see them so happy. That I was able to make this happen is what makes being a travel advisor so much fun.

What’s one cultural experience that left a lasting impression on you?

Trekking to Everest Base Camp in 2014. It was a lifelong dream to get to Everest, with spectacular scenery every step of the way. The mountain views were incomparable and it was such an achievement to make it, followed by a climb up Kala Patthar the next morning for the sunrise with views over to Everest. The Sherpa people are kind, welcoming and very considerate, living a very simple life. It was a humbling experience. Kathmandu was fascinating, full of life and quite chaotic but a fun beginning and end to the trip.

What skills from The Travel Institute have made the biggest impact in your career?

I am confident of myself worth and am very comfortable selling luxury travel. The courses were very in depth and full of useful information. The Luxury Travel Course was excellent.

Are there any mentors or peers in the industry who’ve deeply influenced your path?

The Luxury Leaders Alliance with Travel Leaders has been great influence in my business and especially Perry Lungmus who has now retired. Perry was very active with the Adventure Travel Trade Association of which I am a member and he started the LLA many years ago., This was instrumental in my really selling luxury travel.
