What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?
I’ve always been that girl—the one who gets overly excited at the mention of a trip and already has a full itinerary drafted by the next day. Travel has always been my passion, and I naturally found myself helping friends and family find great flight deals, plan detailed trips, and make the most of their vacations. A few of them eventually said, “You should really start charging for this,” and that’s when it clicked. I started offering my services on the side—charging fees from the very beginning—and before I knew it, my side business was outperforming my 9-to-5. That was my defining moment. I took the leap, went full time, and never looked back.
What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?
One of the most surprising facts is that the majority of people in the U.S. don’t even have a passport. To me, that’s such a missed opportunity—because travel has the power to shape you in ways nothing else can. It stretches your perspective, builds empathy, and helps you become more self-aware.
My favorite part about helping others experience the world is watching those transformations happen. Whether it’s a couple seeing a different culture for the first time on their honeymoon or a family creating lifelong memories in a place they never thought they’d visit—being a small part of that journey is incredibly fulfilling. Travel changes you, and I love helping people open that door.
What’s one cultural experience that left a lasting impression on you?
One of the most impactful experiences of my life was when I lived with a family in Costa Rica for six weeks while teaching English in a community built near landfill slums. I arrived with two oversized suitcases and, honestly, a bit of a “princess” mindset—but that experience shifted everything for me.
Despite having so little, the families I worked with were some of the most generous and joyful people I’ve ever met. I’ll never forget walking into one home and seeing a handmade sign above their dining table that read, “God is good. We are grateful.” They would offer me snacks, small gifts, and so much kindness—just out of the goodness of their hearts.
It taught me a profound lesson in gratitude, humility, and perspective. These people had next to nothing, yet they gave everything. That experience changed the way I view the world and how I approach travel—and life.
What skills from The Travel Institute have made the biggest impact in your career?
Completing the Certified Travel Agent program gave me more industry recognition and credibility. I often received the question “what certifications do you have?” Having the CTA showed clients and suppliers that I was serious about being a professional in this industry. That credibility helped me build trust, especially as I was just starting out and charging planning fees from day one.Completing the Certified Travel Agent program gave me more industry recognition and credibility.
