What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?
I have been traveling for fun most of my adult life. Once I ended my 20-year career in management, I took a 2-year sabbatical to explore my freedom and this incredible planet! I knew that travel was my passion and what better thing to do than pursue a career helping people experience the world.
Can you share a moment in your career when you realized, “This is exactly what I’m meant to do”?
I knew that I was a perfect fit for travel advising when I helped an 85-year-old woman return to Puerto Rico despite being in a wheelchair. I went above and beyond helping her find the resources to see and do everything she requested. It was a challenge and took many hours of research. But it was my sincerest pleasure helping her achieve a dream she thought was lost!
How has your journey evolved since graduating from The Travel Institute?
I am feeling more confident and empowered in my career now that I have my CTA.
What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?
I love the initial brainstorm sessions when my clients’ eye light up with excitement! And I love the return call or visit sharing their most precious memories!
What’s one cultural experience that left a lasting impression on you?
Visiting Morocco gave me a new perspective and a peek into a culture that I did not fully understand! Layers of color, spices, and culture!
What skills from The Travel Institute have made the biggest impact in your career?
Detailed learning that is focused on improvement and success.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their travel industry journey?
Keep traveling! Your best resource is firsthand experience. But if you cannot, research, learn and plan to make your clients’ dreams come true!
How do you stay motivated and inspired in an industry that’s constantly changing?
Change is the only thing that is constant. It keeps the day, week, and year exciting!
Are there any mentors or peers in the industry who’ve deeply influenced your path?
I am fortunate to work with someone who has been in the industry for 18 years. He has taught me a lot about the details we often forget.
If you could only pack 3 items for a trip around the world, what would they be?
A bathing suit, casual black dress and my peppermint oil.
