5 Acapulco, Mexico Attractions

Acapulco, Mexico is an important location because it is a port of call for shipping and cruise lines running between Panama and San Francisco, California. The city of Acapulco is the largest in the state, far larger than the state capital, Chilpancingo. Acapulco also is Mexico’s largest beach and balneario (wellness) resort city.

An Acapulco attraction is its nightlife as it has been for many decades. As always, research the varying reopening dates, operating hours, and availability of attractions and accommodations and consult sources like the U.S. State Department and the World Health Organization (WHO) before booking your clients.

Below you will find five of the many attractions in Acapulco that travel professionals should be familiar with for their clients.

1. Dolores Olmedo House

The home is noted for the murals Diego Rivera painted there for his patron during the last two years of his life. During that time he covered the house’s outside walls with tile mosaics and its interior in murals. The home is not a museum, so the public can see only the outside mosaics unless they have a special invitation.

2. Convention Center

The Acapulco Convention Center has 250,000 square feet of exhibition space, thirty-five meeting rooms, two theaters, and gardens and terraces. Aztec pyramids inspired its architecture, and the entrance has massive stone sculptures in gardens that flank cooling fountains. A busy place, it is the home to various shows and events.

3. Fort San Diego

The fort is Acapulco’s most historic building. Originally built in 1616 to protect the city from pirates, views from the ramparts overlook the cruise ship dock. The fort’s air-conditioned exhibit rooms cover the indigenes, conquest of the South Seas, navigation, the Manila galleons, commerce in porcelain, and pirates.

4. La Quebrada Clavadistas (Cliff Divers)

Your clients’ time is valuable, so allow them to let a certified travel agent research and plan the memorable dream vacation. A certified agent can help define what you want to get out of your travels and present options that fulfill or exceed your desires. They can book everything for you, from hotel and air to spa appointments and dining.

5. Roqueta Island

A glass-bottom boat ride reveals an underwater statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe near the island. Activities include relaxing on the beach, hiking to the lighthouse for a panoramic view, or, for a different animal experience, visiting the Aca-Zoo animals.
