Alumni Headshot - Vicki Kramer, CTA

Vicki Kramer, CTA – Alumni Spotlight

What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?

Yes—when I was eight years old, my family took a road trip from Pennsylvania to California, and I was completely captivated. It was my first time seeing snow, exploring places like Carlsbad Caverns, and discovering how each part of the country had its own unique beauty. That trip left a lasting impression and sparked my love for travel.
My very first job out of high school was as a travel agent, and I loved it. Although my career eventually went in another direction, I never lost that early passion. Now, as I look toward retirement, I’ve come full circle. Returning to the travel industry allows me to blend purpose and passion, building a portable career that lets me explore the world while helping others do the same.

Can you share a moment in your career when you realized, “This is exactly what I’m meant to do”?

It’s the excitement I feel every time I start researching a trip for a client. It doesn’t matter if it’s a city four hours away or a destination in Europe—I approach both with the same energy and focus. I genuinely enjoy finding the right fit and making sure each trip reflects the client’s interests and travel style. That’s when I know I’m right where I’m supposed to be.

How has your journey evolved since graduating from The Travel Institute?

Graduating from The Travel Institute boosted my confidence and added credibility for potential clients. I already had the passion, but needed the training to sharpen my skills and approach my business with a more strategic mindset.

What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?

My favorite part is knowing I’ve helped set the stage for a memory that lasts a lifetime, something clients will look back on with a smile, knowing it can’t ever be repeated in quite the same way. Sure, there will be more trips, and I hope each one is unique in its own way. But I love the thought of them saying, “Remember when we went to… and what a great time we had?” That’s the part that never gets old.

What skills from The Travel Institute have made the biggest impact in your career?

Learning the legal side of the business was a big help to me. Understanding how to protect both the client and myself through clear documentation, terms, and professional practices gave me a strong foundation. It helps build trust, which is essential in this industry.

How do you stay motivated and inspired in an industry that’s constantly changing?

Change can be exciting! I roll with it by making adjustments that help keep my clients informed and confident in their plans. I enjoy using new technology to streamline my business and make things more efficient behind the scenes. I really love the ability to brand my communications and personalize them, whether it’s a customized itinerary, invoice, or follow-up. Integration features between different platforms have been super helpful in streamlining processes.
