What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?
In the beginning, it wasn’t some big glamorous dream. I was a young mom on a very tight budget, but I still wanted my kids to experience travel and make memories together. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to stretch a dollar, how to travel smarter, and how to make meaningful trips happen even when money was tight. At some point, it clicked that if I was figuring this out for my own family, I could help other families do the same. That desire to help people create memories they might not think are possible is what pulled me into this industry in the beginning.
Can you share a moment in your career when you realized, “This is exactly what I’m meant to do”?
For me, that moment came when I shifted from just booking travel to helping other agents grow their businesses. Watching someone conquer something that genuinely scared them, whether it was putting themselves out there, raising their prices, or finally believing they were capable of more, was incredibly powerful. Seeing agents hit new heights after I supported them made it very clear to me that this was exactly what I was meant to do. Helping others grow, both personally and professionally, has been the most fulfilling part of my career.
How has your journey evolved since graduating from The Travel Institute?
Since graduating from The Travel Institute, my journey has evolved from simply building my own business to leading and mentoring others with intention. Early on in my career, I was told by the first agency I applied for that they wouldn’t even look at my application unless I passed the TAP Test, which pushed me to commit deeply to my education. Earning my CTA and eventually my CTIE gave me the confidence and credibility to be taken seriously in a crowded industry. More importantly, it shaped how I think as a business owner and leader today, influencing how I support my clients, mentor other agents, and continue to grow with purpose.
What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?
My favorite part is knowing I get to play a small role in someone’s memories. Travel isn’t just about where you go, it’s about the moments that stay with you long after you’re home. Time and memories are often more valuable than money, and I take that responsibility very seriously. I know firsthand how meaningful my own family’s travel memories are. Whether it’s a family finally taking the trip they’ve talked about for years, or someone stepping outside their comfort zone and seeing the world differently, it’s really special to be part of that. Knowing I helped make those experiences possible never gets old.
What’s one cultural experience that left a lasting impression on you?
One cultural experience that left a lasting impression on me was my very first trip to Oahu when I was 16, traveling with my grandmother, who was my very best friend. Being welcomed into the everyday life of people who actually live on the island changed how I saw travel. I was able to experience the culture in a way that went far beyond being a visitor, from the deep respect for the land to the sense of community and care for one another. That love and reverence for where they live stayed with me. It shaped how I approach travel to this day and is why Oahu continues to be my favorite place to return to and to share with others.
What skills from The Travel Institute have made the biggest impact in your career?
The biggest impact for me came from learning how to truly think like a professional and a business owner, not just someone who books travel. The Travel Institute gave me a strong foundation in sales, ethics, and client care, but also helped me understand the importance of credibility, confidence, and continuing education in a crowded industry. Those skills shaped how I communicate with clients, how I price and position my value, and how I lead and mentor other agents. It helped me show up with confidence and intention, knowing I had the knowledge and education to stand behind the work I do.
How do you stay motivated and inspired in an industry that’s constantly changing?
I stay motivated by remembering the bigger picture. This industry will always change, but people’s desire to connect, explore, and create memories doesn’t. I stay inspired by the people I serve, both clients and advisors, and by continuing to learn and evolve alongside the industry instead of resisting it. I also remind myself that growth often comes from discomfort, and that keeps me open, curious, and willing to adapt rather than getting stuck in how things used to be.
