Ashley Forget, CTA – Alumni Spotlight

What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?

I first became interested in a career in travel when I took my daughter on her first trip. Seeing the magic in her eyes reignited my love of traveling, and made me want to pursue it as more than just a hobby.

Can you share a moment in your career when you realized, “This is exactly what I’m meant to do”?

The first time I booked a client on their very first trip! The excitement that they were feeling just made it so much more rewarding!

How has your journey evolved since graduating from The Travel Institute?

I have been able to put my knowledge to use and make my process much more streamlined and efficient, but also make sure I’m asking the right questions and discussing aspects of the travel process that may not have come up before with my clients.

What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?

Unlocking the world to my clients and booking them trips to places they never thought they’d get to see! The clients who get to experience a bucket list trip are my absolute favourite!

What skills from The Travel Institute have made the biggest impact in your career?

I’ve definitely seen the benefit of learning how to manage my time more effectively, as well as streamlining the qualification process by asking more targeted questions when a quote request comes in.

What advice would you give to someone just starting their travel industry journey?

Walk before you try to run. There is so much knowledge involved in this industry. Knowledge about the destinations, as well as how to properly run the business. Make sure that you take your time, and spend the appropriate amount of time learning what your clients need/want, and what is the right fit for them.

How do you stay motivated and inspired in an industry that’s constantly changing?

By constantly learning. There is always a new destination or supplier to learn about! Whether it’s doing the research on my own, or taking/updating my training courses, there is always something to learn.
