What inspired you to pursue a career in travel and tourism? Was there a defining moment?
I have always loved to travel. I find the experience of a new destination to be positively exhilarating. Always curious! I had a taste of the travel industry in my early 20’s but pursued a different life path. Now that I’m a little bit older and wiser, I wanted to give travel another go round. So here I am pursuing it!
How has your journey evolved since graduating from The Travel Institute?
Ever since graduating The Travel Institute, I feel I’m evolving professionally. The certificate has proved my commitment and given me a silent permission to be taken seriously. I have applied myself more to learning as much as I can and upping my time commitment.
What’s your favorite part about helping others experience the world through travel?
I know how excited and satisfied i get when I’ve actually did something I set out to do! Check! Conveying that to others and helping them do the same is where it’s at! I know when someone tells me about an experience they had or somewhere they travelled, I vicariously experience it through them but to actually experience what they have experienced is special.
What’s one cultural experience that left a lasting impression on you?
The first time I visited Ireland, I did a road trip with a friend. We had never left New Jersey per say, when you step into another culture and see how they live, so simple and not wanting for much, yet so accommodating to others, happy and friendly, changes your perspective. I came back from that trip with a greater appreciation for others but also acknowledging the many blessings that I had and took for granted.
What advice would you give to someone just starting their travel industry journey?
The advice I would give someone just starting the travel industry would be to go in with a great attitude! Rome wasn’t built in a day. Knowledge comes with time and experience, put the energy in and you will see a return. See what you can see and learn what you can learn. Applied knowledge is key!
How do you stay motivated and inspired in an industry that’s constantly changing?
I stay motivated and inspired in an ever changing market by taking one day at a time! I don’t try to know everything or go on every trip presented. I take in what I can take in and I rest and travel when appropriate. And sometimes I step back!
